Fixed-Term Contracts

Fixed term contracts are permitted by law. There is no minimum or maximum duration but a one year time period is preferred. The contracts can be renewed on agreement of both parties without consequence. Early termination of the contract can be done with the appropriate notice period provided by the terminating party.

Probationary Periods

The probationary period in Nepal is 6 months from the date of hire. This can be extended for 6 months if the worker's performance is unsatisfactory. Termination during the probationary period can be done with 1 day notice and without cause. This needs to be addressed in the contract, and the worker can terminate the contract in the same manner.

Holidays

Male workers receive 13 days. Female workers receive 14 days. These are paid days off. If a worker works during the public holiday, they can take substitue leave as a paid day off.

Vacation

Workers are entitled to 12 days per year of sick leave. If a worker takes leave for 3 days or more, a health certificate may be requested. If there is available sick leave the worker must be paid during this time off.

Overtime

Any employee is entitled to OT of 1.5 the basic salary rate. Workers can work a maximum of 20 hours of OT in a week.

Mandatory Bonuses

Basic salary, Dearness allowance and 20% basic as SSF.
