A Message From Our COO, Leslie, Global Operations

In 2024, we look forward to continuing to serve our clients with their talent across the globe. Part of looking ahead, is also taking a moment to reflect on the changes 2023 brought to our internal operations, celebrate successes, and strategically work to always improve our approach to providing you with a memorable experience. In 2023, our Operations and International departments became Global Operations, which unified our domestic and international services. Clients benefited from having a single point of contact to service all their day-to-day needs, while still having access to the expertise and knowledge of our regional experts.

We are delighted to hear that many clients have enjoyed the simplicity that comes with having their Global Account Manager. But we also recognize that with change comes the opportunity to continue to grow and improve within our new model. Some of the areas we want to strengthen in this new year are providing clients more ease in onboarding talent anywhere in the world, maintaining high expectations for our service levels, and serving more as a strategic partner to clients to help navigate the complexities that come with employing workers across the US and the globe. More to come, but here is a great resource to help you get started with tips on hiring workers across the globe.

We appreciate our clients tremendously for the opportunity to partner with them. We welcome you to share your experiences with us so that we may ensure we do our part to make utilizing a contingent workforce simple, with the highest quality service you could ask for.

If you need anything, please reach out to any of your TCWGlobal contacts. You may also utilize hello@tcwglobal.com to easily receive support from our full Global Operations team.

Lastly, I enjoy getting to meet as many customers as possible! If we haven’t had the opportunity to connect, or you would like to meet with me to discuss any ways we can continue to make your experience a great one, please reach out and I would love to chat.

Thank you for your trust, and I hope you have an excellent start to the new year!

- Leslie Cruz, COO, TCWGlobal

Here are some important dates about W-2s. Rest assured, we will communicate these to workers, too:

  • After receiving their W-2, if workers have questions, they can contact their Global Account Manager or email hello@tcwglobal.com

Depending on their question, and if it’s specific to their unique tax situation or eligibility, we may need to direct them to contact a licensed tax professional to review their full scenario

4 Tips When Deciding to Go Global

Expanding your headcount globally can be exciting! It can also be super complex. Even while partnering with an expert like TCWGlobal, it’s important that your organization takes the right first steps to determine if having a global workforce is right for you. Below are 4 tips to help make an informed decision and ensure your team’s experience with a global workforce runs smoothly.

1. Understand the costs and employment nuances of the country.

Some of the reasons companies explore global hiring are:

  • Access to specialized skill sets,
  • Increased knowledge and experience in global and local markets,
  • Potential cost savings,
  • and much more

While these benefits can certainly be true, with how much employment laws and costs vary from country to country, it’s important to understand the true requirements and investment needed before you decide to hire workers across the globe. This is especially true if this is your organization’s first time hiring outside of the US, or you’re entering a new country.

For example, many organizations are familiar with the requirements to employ workers in the United States, so if you were to hire a worker in certain EMEA locations for the first time, you may be surprised to learn that employers have statutory benefit obligations that aren’t common in the US (i.e. pension, mandatory time off, etc.). That’s not to say that the benefits of employing workers in these locations does not outweigh the costs, but when making the decision to hire internationally, it’s important to be aware of the requirements and factor those into the decision-making process (and budgets).

2. Plan early for onboarding

In the US, you can practically recruit and hire all within the same day, and onboard the worker rapidly, especially when using StaffingNation. International hiring can take a bit longer to allow workers and organizations to carefully consider the employment contract terms, become familiar with all employment requirements and costs, and work through the logistics of having workers in different locations.

TCWGlobal is here to be a partner in this process, and we encourage you to contact your Global Account Manager or hello@tcwglobal.com as soon as you are aware that you’d like to hire internationally. That way, we can provide prompt quotes, onboarding guidance, and more to help the process progress smoothly once a candidate is located. To request an international quote, please submit this form and we’ll guide you through the next steps!

3. Seek guidance with performance concerns or terminations.

Did you know that the concept of “at-will” employment does not exist outside of the United States? In most countries, the option to end a worker’s engagement or terminate them is dictated by the terms of their employment contract, and local employment law. A common requirement known as a “waiting period” says workers need advance notice before their employment can be ended, and there can be additional requirements, too.

The rules to end a worker’s engagement will vary by situation, so before taking that step to terminate a worker, or work through performance concerns, please seek guidance from TCWGlobal by contacting your Global Account Manager or hello@tcwglobal.com.  Our goal is to be a proactive partner through this process to reduce risk for your organization.

4. Don’t do it alone!

Since 2009, TCWGlobal has worked to make things simple for our clients. We know the struggles that come with managing a global workforce, dealing with employment regulations, and navigating the complexities of international expansion. We welcome you to leverage our expertise while determining if a global workforce is the right move for your organization. If it is, we are here to support those next steps however we can. Contact TCWGlobal to get started – we look forward to partnering with you!
