A forensic pathologist investigates sudden, unexpected, or suspicious deaths by examining the body and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the death. The doctor performs autopsies, studies medical evidence, determines the cause and manner of death, and may explain the findings in court. The work connects medicine with the justice system, but it also serves public health by identifying dangerous diseases, accidents, and patterns of preventable death.

What a forensic pathologist investigates

A forensic pathologist is a physician who specializes in examining deaths that could have legal or public significance.
