Fixed-term contracts are permitted, there is no minimum duration but there is a maximum duration of 5 years. They can be renewed but the total duration of the original and renewed contract should not exceed 5 years. A fixed-term contract can be ended early, with notice of at least two months. Notice of dismissal at the contract term conclusion must be provided in one day or the contract will be regarded as permanent.
Probationary periods are allowed by law for up to 3 months. Notice requirements apply to terminations during the notice period.
There are 9 public holidays in Uzbekistan, and some of these holidays are multiple days in duration.
All workers are granted 21 days of annual leave per year. Annual leave does not carry over from year to year and is paid out at termination.
There is an entitlement of up to 6 months of sick leave. A medical certification is required. Employers must pay the worker's wages while on sick leave pay is typically between 60-80% of the worker's average salary.
Standard working hours are 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.
Overtime is paid at 2 times the worker's regular rate and is restricted to 120 hours per year. Premiums for night work are 1.5 times the worker's regular rate.
Termination requires 2 months of notice. Average monthly salary, taking into account the severance pay is continued for workers during the period of the job search if the contract is terminated due to changes in technology; organization of production and labor; reduction in the volume of work; entailed a change in the number of staff or a change in the nature of the work or the liquidation of an enterprise. An additional month may be granted if a certificate is issued by the local labour authority. Severance pay is a one time cash payment made when a termination occurs on grounds other than listed above, the amount of which is determined the worker's length of service but cannot be less than 50% of the average monthly salary for up to three years of service; 75% of the average monthly salary for three to five years of service; 100% of salary for five to ten years of service; 150% of salary for ten to fifteen years of service and 200% of salary for more than fifteen years of service. There is a cap of three months on severance pay.
Workers may terminate their contracts with 14 days of notice.
Pregnant women and women with children under 3 years can only be terminated in the case of a company liquidation.
